Hands-on exercise in hybrid broadcasting: technical demonstration of low power transmitters, how to build an antenna, how to use simple audio applications to produce a short recorded broadcast, and how to install a preconfigured Linux web streaming platform get the audio on the web.

Organized by Joanne Richardson in collaboration with Idea Foundation, Cluj. Conceptual workshop with video makers and students from Cluj led by Tatjana Bozic, director of ‘Distorted Reflections, a documentary on sexist images of women in the media, and participant in a new project that combines video activism with policies for regulating the advertising industry in Eastern Europe.

Audio Programming & Streaming, workshop by Tilos Radio
Organized by Joanne Richardson in collaboration with Idea Foundation, Cluj. Presentation of Tilos Radio history and method of organization (for a crew of over 150 volunteers), as well as a hands on experiment with different styles of programming audio content strategies by Dj Kaosz, and a demonstration of Dark Ice, an open source streaming platform by Akos Maroy.

Build Your Own Sound Instruments, workshop by Chromatic Field
Organized by Joanne Richardson in collaboration with Idea Foundation & Tranzit House, Cluj. The idea of building one's own sound instruments was first popularized in America in the 1950s and 60s. Participants in the workshop learned how to build their own sound modules using cheap solar circuits, which can be "played" using sources of light. [ http://www.sciss.de/chromaticfield ]

Video production workshop for Real Fictions project, by D Media
Real Fictions is a collaborative video production project between D Media and teenagers from Cluj. Following the recruitment of local volunteers, Diana Balog and Nita Mocanu of D Media organized a training workshop in video production for the volunteers. The workshop focused on constructing storyboards, filming techniques, using editing software and adding special effects.

Social Acoustics, workshop by Paul Fyvolent & Daniel Gorman
Interactive workshop in collaboration with AltArt (Cluj), focusing on radio art, urban interventions and cultural jamming. Participants in the workshop created site-specific acoustic portraits of Cluj. Social Acoustics was part of [ radio.territories ], a year-long project of acoustic interventions in Austria, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Estonia, Germany, Romania, Slovakia and the UK.

Found Footage Workshop by Joanne Richardson & John Davis at KSA:K, Chisinau
Joanne Richardson of D Media and John Davis, a filmmaker from the US, led a workshop on found footage film, introducing the history of the practice and providing production assistance for participants. The workshop was hosted at [ KSA:K ], the Center for Contemporary art in Chisinau. Each participant produced a short 3-10 minute experimental video using found footage materials.

Tactical Media Workshop by Joanne Richardson & Francesca Bria at ACAF, Egypt
Joanne Richardson of D Media and Francesca Bria of Candida TV led a workshop on Tactical Media at the [ Alexandria Contemporary Arts Forum ]. The workshop focused on the general history of Tactical Media and the specific practices of D Media and Candida TV. The participants also came up with possible models for artistic and urban activism in an Egyptian context.
