Made in Italy
May 2005 - February 2006

Made in Italy is a collaborative research project between Candida TV (Italy) and D Media focusing on the delocalization of Italian firms in Romania, the migration of Romanian workers to Italy, and the work conditions of workers in Italian companies in Romania and Romanian migrants in Italy. Two short videos were produced:


Made in Italy. 45min, 2006 (26 min version re-edited in 2008).

Made in Italy traces the connections between 16,000 Italian companies delocalizing to Romania and 2 million Romanian workers migrating to Italy. Rather than present a unified  story, it shows the contradictory perspectives of Italian entrepreneurs, trade union leaders, workers and Romanian migrants in Italy.... [ description and stills ] .. The Italianization of the public space in Arad can be seen trough the Italian signs and logos on the streets, and there is a feeling in the air that this is an "occupied" city. This says a lot about the economic situation of Arad. The video consists of interviews with 5 women who are living in Arad and are working for Italian companies. ... [ description and stills ]
