BEHIND THE SCENE
video archive
2004 / 2005
20 h
The video archive consist of 60 interviews made in the summer of 2004, the protagonists are different persons implied in the contemporary art scene in Romania. We visited Bucharest, Arad, Iasi, Timisoara and Cluj http://www.dmedia.ro/04video-e.htm
This archive is a part of a D Media project called Real Fictions, a project in which teenagers form Cluj were invited to make short documentary videos on issues like nationalism, open source and contemporary art.
Following the discussions with the participants I draw the conclusion that the contemporary art area in hardly known by them, I also had problems giving information and explanations about it, so I composed a list on questions and with the help of Evelyn (volunteer in the project) and Diana (D Media member) we started the travel for the interviews. The questionnaire raised the problem of the artists identities, of defining the artist's profession, the relation between the artists and the different cultural institutions etc. In the same time this project meant also a provocation for my artist activity searching for responses of the many questions that I had for the people in Romania related to visual art. The archive was made in a very short time, we choused the participants by chance ...The result is a collage of spoken texts which is constructing a collective portray of the contemporary art scene of Romania from the summer of 2004.
