The waiting roomat O.K Centre for Contemporary Art Linz, Austria 2003
The space that I created together with the video with the same name “The waiting room” has the structure of a coffee house, inspired be the context of the city Linz. In that period when I was working at this project my life took a very hard change, my father found out that he has cancer, he died a few days before the opening of the exhibition. The whole project is influenced by my confused thoughts related to the discussions that I had with him, related to the completely new situation of having my first art residency and also my experience in a new context.
The space is a resting place, a place where you stop to have a conversation, but the conversations turns into a search for meaning. The video is played in loop in a big painting frame, “How is your life?”, “Are you content?” “What future plans do you have?”, “What would you do if you would find out that you have just a short t time to live, like one day?”… You can always drink a coffee. You can wait a while in this space.
In the beginning I called the project “the waiting room for heave”, ironically, the heaven is the place outside our time and space, it is outside our lives, if you wait or not for it to appear it will always be at a certain distance, always in a different dimension.
